New soil analysis Laboratory in Uzbekistan

A new soil laboratory is installed in Syrdarya region, at the premises of Gulistan State University. The complete lab equipment that can monitor the soil fertility and plant health was supplied by STEP Systems GmbH (Germany) within the framework of EU-funded project Sustainable Development in Rural Areas of Uzbekistan. The installation of the laboratory was supervised by international expert, Mr. Braungardt.

Further, on the 5th of March a seminar for growers, farmers and soil experts from GSU has been organized in order to share the knowledge on plant nutrition basics, effects on plant growth and necessity of efficient irrigation and options for determination of water content in the soil. The expert provided general recommendations to the audience, particularly with regard to the specific conditions in Syrdarya region like high salinity, very high pH and only few rainfall.

The next day a practical training with demonstration of using new tools and equipment and correct soil sampling in the field was held for university laboratory specialists and technicians as well as soil fertilization students. It is expected that the laboratory will start offering its services from April 2018. For more detailed information please visit project’s web-site.
