SWM 5000 is the automated monitoring system for efficient irrigation management.

Measuring system

The measuring principle of the SWM 5000 is based on the latest FDR technology (Frequency Domain Reflectometry). It enables fast and precise determination of soil moisture. The central hardware component is a robust stainless steel measuring probe, which is hydraulically or manually pressed into the ground.

The measuring sensors are located

  • in the probe tip (1 sensor) during manual measurement
  • at equal intervals for the soil profiles 0-30, 30-60 and 60-90 cm (3 sensors).
    Thus, the water storage capacity of the lower layers can also be taken into account during irrigation management.

The SWM 5000 soil moisture lance has been designed as a compact mounted unit for the front linkage of a tractor. It measures soil moisture while the tractor is driving across the field and pulling out a drum sprinkler at the same time. The SWM 5000 system is conveniently controlled via smartphone app from the driver's cab. Alternatively, the system is also available as stand-alone unit (handheld meter and measuring probe) and replaces all previous mobile soil moisture measuring systems.

Evaluation & Irrigation Management

After measuring the soil moisture in different places, the readings are evaluated through a SWM Companion app and a recommendation of the required irrigation amount is issued. The SWM Companion app is available on AppStore and GooglePlay.
The sampled fields can be created as a GPS card and stored with specific properties (relief maps, inhomogeneous floor sections, etc.). These properties are then taken in account during calculation of the area-specific irrigation quantities.

The system is a perfect supplement to drum irrigation systems.

While the sprinkler is being pulled out, the soil moisture can be measured at the same time. After the measurement, the tractor driver receives the proposed amount of irrigation via the SWM Companion app. With an appropriate pump module, the irrigation command is sent directly to the drum sprinkler via app, and the irrigation is automatically carried out with the water amount adjusted to the area-specific precipitation quantities of the soil sections.
